Community-21 – series of conversations reflecting on community work over Covid-19, funded by the Community Relations Council‘s Media Grant Scheme.
2020 and 2021 have no doubt been difficult for everyone. In Northern Ireland we’ve seen lives lost, routines disrupted, families isolated and the world as we know it has been put ‘on pause’. While this is true, there have been many positive stories coming out of Northern Ireland’s community sector.
Community groups across this country have banned together to support the statutory and health services over this period. Community organisations and charities have prepared food parcels and provided essentials to isolated and vulnerable people. Social enterprises have developed new, innovative ways to produce goods and provide services despite restrictions, risking their own health to ensure their communities are properly taken care of.
While many of these acts may not seem harrowing at first, when combined with the acts of others over an extended period of time, they make a big difference in a world that was quickly turned upside down.
This is what the Community-21 series is all about. This is what community is and always should be.
Over this series you’ll hear from newfound friends across NI’s community spectrum that have continued to work in spite of these hardships, providing goods, services, advocacy and even a bit of craic to cheer members of their communities up over this time. We want to know where they’ve been, what they’ve done over Covid and where they’re going from here. It’s a time to reflect on what we’ve all been through, to remember those who may no longer be with us, and to celebrate as we slowly but surely come out of this difficult time.
“Covid-19? No, this is Community-21! And we really do look forward to seeing you out in the community soon!!!“
